Meet our Instructors
The teachers at Drum & Drummer have been hand selected not just for their excellent skills on their respective instruments, but also for their demeanor, patience and professionalism. Each instructor also brings to the table his own specialty with regards to style and background. This really rounds out the very wide variety of expertise that make up our teaching staff!

Aaron Emery Watch Aaron in Action
Aaron Emery earned his Masters Degree in percussion from the University of Arizona. He has also earned a Bachelor's Degree in Percussion Performance from Northwestern University and a Performance Certificate from The Drummer's Collective in NYC. Hes is a fantastic drum set player and excells in the Jazz and R&B genres.
Aaron has been teaching private lessons for many years now and is proud of the musicians and good people his students have grown to become. Aaron plays or has played with many groups around Arizona including; Geneveive & the LP's, The Bad News Blues Band, Crystal Stark, The Jive Bombers, The Bryan Dean Trio & Many others.
Aaron is available for private lessons on Fridays between noon & 6pm and on saturdays between 10am & 1pm.
Erik Truelove Watch Erik in Action
Erik Truelove has won the title of the "World's Most Accurate Drummer." four different times. A consummate drummer and instructor, Truelove has given an average of more than 1,000 lessons and 100 performances per year for several years. Erik is an very patient instructor and has developed some revolutionary curriculums for teaching the drum set that are a core part of Drum & Drummers approach to teaching the drum set.
Erik has toured nationally and internationally and is a sought after studio musician as well. In 2011, His band the TRYST recently took home 7 Tammies (Tucson Area Music Awards), including best new release 2011, Best singer, best bassist, Best Drummer, Best song wiriter. Get your copy here.
Drum & Drummer School of Percussion is the manifestation of many years of dreaming and planning by Erik and he is very excited to share it with Southern Arizona and beyond! Erik is available for private lessons most days of the week and also conducts many of the group classes that are offered at Drum & Drummer.
Paul Gibson Watch Paul in Action
Drummer & multi-percussionist Paul Gibson is a freelance performing musician and music educator in his native Tucson. Paul has performed with many of Tucson's most prestigious musical organizations including the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Tucson Pops Orchestra, Tucson Chamber Artists, Art.If.Act Dance Project, and the Arizona Theater Company. Currently Lead Drummer of Tucson & District Pipe Band, Paul is one of the southwest's strongest proponents of Scottish rudimental style drumming. He has performed in Carnegie Hall in New York City and traveled on two international tours of China.
Paul received a master's degree in percussion performance from Rowan University, where he studied with Don Liuzzi and Dean Witten, and completed his undergraduate studies at The University of North Texas where he worked with Mark Ford, Christopher Deane, and Ed Soph.
Paul is available for private lesson on Tuesdays from 1pm to 8pm at Drum & Drummer.
Aikaterina Lynn Assimacopoulos
Katina Assimacopoulos grew up in South Dakota where she studied piano since the age of five. Since then she has studied piano for fifteen years. She spent much of her time involved in music programs, participating in many concerts and competitions and has received several state-wide and local awards. She began her undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Minnesota. There, she also continued developing her love of music through instruction under Harvard graduate Dr. Paul Shaw. After her first year Katina transferred to the University of Arizona where she continues her undergraduate degree.
Katina has been teaching piano lessons for two years and is excited to join the team at Drum and Drummer School of Percussion. She has constructed a piano program designed to give students a well-rounded music education. She loves teaching piano lessons and is excited to push her students to work hard, have fun and most importantly learn skills they will be proud of.
